Written when Deirdre was still Donald (which is when I first encountered and read it) but even more pertinent today, a generation later. Not so much about economics per se as about economists and their rhetorical constructions, and the more valuable because one can abstract from economics to rhetorical story-telling in general.
I see several recent releases in this area. I decided to start here, as this book is brief, and fairly non-technical in itself. The author has plenty of verve to express critical views of economists' pronouncements, not completely unlike Taleb's, but his own. I found this little book well worth my time. It's not that the Emperor of Economics always has no clothes, but the stories underlying some very solemn and sober pronouncements by the deacons of the Dismal Science can be pretty threadbare. Recent years have brought this forcefully home.
