This book primarily advertises for the author's Spartan Races. You've probably seen these races being advertised, or other similar mud/obstacle course runs (Tough Mudder, Warrior Dash, etc...) The Spartan Fit book covers (in great detail) the history of Sparta, their warrior ethos, and training regime. The book covers recommended workouts, diets, and lifestyle routines. That being said, it's not a particularly useful book for those looking to improve their workouts unless they are starting from absolute scratch. As someone who has done obstacle course/mud races, and trains on a daily basis, I didn't find much value in the book - a lot of the concepts (like going to sleep at 8PM) are just common sense for a healthy lifestyle. The keys are: moderation and discipline.Overall: 3/5 stars

The book was more PR for Spartan races and the author than any kind of valuable training program with some pseudo-history of Sparta mixed-in. Not much beyond basic guidelines for healthy living found in most fitness and healthy lifestyle guidebooks.

A lot of inspirational talk and an ordinary list of exercises.

This book provides you with some basic nutrition and workouts in order to prepare you for your first Spartan Race. If you already do some sort of physical training, you probably won’t find anything surprising. What is truly great about this book thw first half filled with motivating stories and advice on building the mental toughness to conquer any obstacle in life, not just a Spartan race.

Very quick read full of interesting and useful information. After reading this book and completing the 30 day program you will certainly be as prepared as you can be for an OCR event. As a Trifecta Member I would recommend this book to any and all OCRers.

First read 'Spartan Up'.... in just a day! Couldn't wait for this book to arrive, although it took me two days to read! Joe De Sena is a great motivator! I'm 59 and have completed five OCR's since reading his books! My Goal: The 2017 Trifecta in Hawaii! My suggestion: Buy them both and go compete!

My husband and I have recently started to get in shape. He is running his first Spartan race in a couple of months. We have been listening to this book on audio and we are both really enjoying it.

I downloaded this to my Kindle because I'm preparing for a rather rugged 10K trail run (working my way towards a half marathon) and wanted to be in better condition this time around. If I incorporate a quarter of the exercises into my training, I will be! The majority of the book is the standard fare of avoiding processed foods, getting eight hours sleep, etc.

Solid book - I liked the chapters that talked about the mental aspect to training and resilience.Although I have 10+ years experience in the fitness/ health/ teaching industry I took away some useful perspectives and ideas that I will incorporate into my own training.All round good read, easy read, useful read!
