I love that I am reading this book as the mother of a 9 and 12 year old and still the material is relatable. I can do the work of the fourth trimester even now with older children. I think that is the way with truth; it withstands the test of time. Kimberly's book is helping me see what steps I can take to view my experience with compassion and continue to heal as I move forward. It's also possible to flip the book open to any part and get a nugget of wisdom or hear another woman's story.

I read this book on my last trimester of our second child and it brought up good conversations with my husband. This book is amazing. So easy to navigate if you're not a "read the whole book" kind of person, but you'll end up reading cover to cover several times. It is so in depth but incredibly easy to read. I love the structure and how Kimberly adds her personal story to relate to the reader. It is a beautiful reminder to rest and not be afraid to ask for help during your recovery. If you are a partner, this book is for you too! Anyone who supports a mother or is a mother should have this in their tool box. I am a first time mom and have heard and read a lot of what she discusses in the book, but now I have one solid source to refer back to, its like the postpartum dictionary must have. I paired it with The first fourty days (Heng Ou) and I need no other books for me. Now to find that for baby! I would recommend even if you're remotely considering motherhood.

I found this book because I have had online courses and hands-on healing sessions with Kimberly Ann Johnson. The wisdom and empowerment she transfers to the people she engages with is unlike anything I have seen.I'm just a few chapters in but already I know this will be a path-altering tool in my own healing process. The rituals and planning and movement guides will give me framing to have my own best Fourth Trimester NOW - even though my child is in 6th Grade.I had an extremely traumatizing pregnancy and birth experience that included surgeries and cancer treatments. It's only recently more than a decade later that I guess my body feels safe enough to explore those traumas.Kimberly's book is an ideal shepherd in this exploration. She has encapsulated her teachings and tools in such a way that you can benefit from her extensive knowledge and authentic compassion even if you don't happen to live near one of her workspaces.I highly recommend The Fourth Trimester for every person preparing to birth - or anyone who is caring for someone that is birthing or parenting. At any stage of preparation or recovery this book has tools and information that are vital and relevant. If you work with birthers, this should be on your library shelf.I will come back to add more to my review once I finish reading it...but don't you wait on me. Where do I begin? This book is everything. I have a one year old and didn’t have this book during my 4th trimester. I will definitely implement this information if I have a second baby. But this book is still so helpful to women at all stages of life. It discusses the importance of self-care, prioritizing ourselves, asking for help and support, knowing we can do everything)but we don’t have to and efinitely don’t have to do it alone. I am a sex therapist and I have recommended this book to several clients and couples. This last week I have gifted this book 4 times to personal friends!!!!! You will not regret this purchase.
